So then some little dream of a jacket comes along that breaks all of the rules. Like the Bad Boy in your 8th grade Science class who had long hair and rode Motocross and was always in trouble for not doing his homework, it makes your heart beat faster and you know you won't be satisfied until you get your hands on it.
Saw this first thing this morning over at Second City Style, and at least three of my "Commandments" went right out the window (#1, #4 and #7). But the good news is that my lust need not go unrequited (unlike my 8th grade heartthrob who didn't know I existed and only had eyes for the tall and snooty Drama Girl). Back off, Drama Girl, this one's mine!
Ooooooh. My. The sleeves are to die for. I don't know much about a 3/4 sleeve jacket, but the more I think about it, the more it seems perfect. Black turtle underneath? What else? Work? Play? Dinner? Opera?
ReplyDeleteAnd frankly, as for the rules, they are made to be broken. Besides, metallics are actually neutrals, so you're good.
Let us know if it joins your closet!!!!
I have several 3/4 sleeve jackets and just love them. You can wear with either long or short sleeves underneath and they look great with both. I could see this jacket working either with jeans or a Little Black Dress. If it does wind up in my closet, I'll post some modelling pics!
ReplyDeletequel beau manteau! you should get this - it's so chic!
ReplyDelete:) D
Ah, merci bien.
ReplyDeleteI broke down and ordered it a little while ago. ;-) When it arrives I'll post some pics.
Congratulations! (en francais?!)
ReplyDeleteI can see this jazzing up some work gray/black outfits. And many other things, too.
I don't think this violates your commands 1, 4, and 7 - a slight belled cuff is not too frou, you will wear this way more than you think (I got a Walter short sleeved, cropped trench in ink blue at Buffalo Exchange in the spring, where it was obviously cheaper, but I've worn it enough to cover the retail price), and it is a classic, albeit an updated version. The fabric looks like mine, so it has a slight metallic sheen - not too much for day, but enough so it can easily go out on the town. The color is a great uncommon neutral - I'll wager you'll pull this out at least once a week!

ReplyDeleteFrom your mouth to the Fashion Goddess' ears! :-)
ohmigod! This is fabulous! And I don't think it breaks the rules at all. The price doesn't seem unreasonable, and you get so much drama for it -- I think the cost per impact per wearing makes it a bargain. I bought the silver metallic Burberry trench early this year and, okay, it's more "sensible" 'cause the sleeves are more classic-longterm, but it lacks the drama this one has. But a drama moderated by the classic line, so I think you could still wear it 5 or 10 years from now. With this "bad boy" on your arm, you'll be making us all envious!
