There are lots of nice alternatives in croc-embossed leather available in a wide range of prices. Here are some of une femme's favorites.

Ann Taylor, $198

Furla, $465

Monsac, $268. (Monsac is one of those under-the-radar, great accessory brands. Their designs are simple, functional, classic, and very well made. Great value for the price!)

Hobo International $191.95 Nice ladylike bag with a vintage vibe.

Pierotucci, $377. This Italian company produces high quality, handmade bags and has a reputation for excellent customer service.
Miss J COVETS the Hobo International. Such a reasonable size, and she loves the vintage vibe.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Saw one very similar on "Mad Men" the other night.
ReplyDeleteI think the Devi Kroell bags at Target - particularly the hard-sided, snake-chain handled evening clutch - are an amazing buy for a faux "skin" bag (snake rather than croc, but just as spot-on for this season). The qulity is comprable to high-end faux bags I've seen (after all, Stella McCartney does cruelty-free vinyl bags for many multiples the price!). The darker shades of bronze or anthracite look best in the Target bags, as they have a richer tone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, will have to check those out!
ReplyDeleteI got one last year that's by 9West and is something of a cross between that Hobo International and a doctor bag (size and vintagey feel of the former, shape more like the latter)--I use it tons! And I have a small acid-green one, mock-croc also, by Jeanne Lottie that I got a few years ago -- also a doctor bag shape but only big enough for wallet, cell, keys, lipstick, not much more. Sometimes I get weary of hauling my life around on one shoulder.
ReplyDeleteI shlep too much stuff to carry really small bags anymore. Wallet, cell phone, blackberry, a couple of lip glosses, small hand lotion, etc. But I do think the big bag trend has gone overboard. So many bags these days feel more like one is carrying a piece of luggage. It's always about the happy middle, I guess.
