Fantasy Style

In a day or two, I'm going to expand on my Dolly post a bit, and talk about some of my real life style influences (and quite the crazy quilt it is) but here are some of my Fantasy Style influences, if money and body weren't an issue:

The Hepburns (Katherine and Audrey)

Juliette Binoche's character in Chocolat

(Googling, this was the only picture I could find from the movie that shows anything below her neck, but I couldn't bear to crop out Johnny Depp. ;-) Her shoes were great too.)

And even more recently, this pic of Carolina Herrera from The Sartorialist really resonated...

(Anyone know where I can find a skirt like that? Some might say this is boring, but to me it's fabulous: the simplicity, the sophistication, the POCKETS!)

  1. Hello :)

Johnny Depp was in "Chocolat"? Now I finally have to see that!

I know what you mean about the skirt, I've been looking for mid-length barrel (?) shaped skirts like that for ages, and the pockets make a huge difference. So many things actually do have pockets these days, one almost feels naked without them. And they make standing around look cute too.

  2. Oh yes, he's in the movie. Even when he's scruffy, he's gorgeous, n'est-ce pas?

Chocolat is a wonderful little movie, that makes a great point, especially in our times of assigning moral values to food and demonizing pleasure. Definitely one to add to the Nexflix queue!

  3. I suspect that Carolina rarely wears clothing that is not of her own design. The skirt looks like something she designed for a resort collection a few years ago -- except she featured it in a different color.

  4. Gina, yes you're probably right. Still, I wouldn't mind finding something "inspired by" this look.

  5. Do you think this might be the skirt (or at least similar?) ..... I'd have to dig deep into my pocket of spare change for this one, though.

  7. What about this skirt at J Crew?

It's got the fullness and the pockets, although they start up higher--you don't get that nice, almost yoke effect. But it's $165, and for that price, maybe you'd compromise?

It's also in a more sensible wool flannel.

  8. Wow! Very cool! And the price is right (though it looks like it's silk taffeta, not wool, which is actually fine with me). And it comes in petite! Thanks, jen, I never would have expected to see something like this at J Crew.

  10. I think the pockets are more patch pockets and more towards the front than the side. You might have to find a pattern and add to it and then make it yourself.
