One more...

After having visited the mall yesterday, and having seen three different women over 40 wearing these, I have to add Newsboy caps to the list of d'un certain age don'ts.

  1. Now the one you show would look very good, I think, with the kind of stuff Prince Charles wears trout fishing.
IOW, I can see a mature woman wearing this with tweeds.

But I confess that I succumbed and bought one in a bronzey velour because it's similar to my hair color and, well, I live in an urban ghetto so it's unremarkable here. :)

  2. Yes, I confess I'm an offender as well. I have three young adult daughters who are very quick to tell me when I'm angering the fashion gods, and so far they've let me get away with the caps. And I have to say practicality is an issue here -- I wear hats regularly because I walk a lot, it's rainy, and I don't always bother with an umbrella (or it's too windy for one). What I don't do is wear the hat indoors -- it comes off when my coat comes off, even though that means I have to deal with some serious hathead repairs! If I'm breaking a rule, or even just ignoring wise fashion advice, well, I'm old enough to give myself permission!

  3. Hmm, maybe I need to rethink this. :-) The women I saw were fifty or sixty-somethings trying to pull off a very young look...perhaps it was the total effect that was off-putting. But it was the very trendy newsboy cap that seemed to put it over the top.

  4. I never thought of it, Materfamilias (BTW, love your blog) but I do take mine off indoors but not, say, indoors at the mall or the convenience store.

Deja psue, I think you're right.
I do wear it occasionally to add a young looking accessory. I'm a teenager at heart though soon will leave my 50's, or maybe because.

Strangely though I have recently reverted to wearing more skirts and I have chosen to leave them longish as being more graceful. I hiked 'em up to check the view of the hipper just above knee length and I thought it made me look chunky (they were soft and flared).

  5. I'd love the women who wear them to post their photo, as I'm curious!

  6. Great idea, duchesse!

If any of you want to send me pics of you wearing your caps, I'll post them and admit the error of my ways. :-)
