  1. Brilliant, I'm heading to my local Talbot's and BR thanks to you. I have a love hate thing with Talbot's. In catalog and web site, the models look so stiff and matchy. But in the store I have found beautiful Italian cotton pants and the best black matte jersey pieces. Good white shirts (for less than $200 that is the benchmark for hip shops). And I can return stuff. Read recently someone thought of a cartoon: a line of women standing outside Talbot's with the caption "Forever 47". Ouch.

  2. Of course now, I'm feeling a little bit off about my elbows. It never ends...but the tops are terrific.

  3. Now I just have to see if they make any in colors I can wear. *grin*

I just had my colors done... to get a second opinion on what suits (I don't really trust my own eye for good reason - I have no ability with color). I was relieved to find out that I was not wrong about my eye for the color orange though... seems orange and yellow are colors I should never ever wear... LOL.

I'm glad to see sleeves of this length. Although I do pilates and my arms are in some sort of shape - I always feel uncomfortable in sleeveless or cap sleeve styles.

  4. J. Crew also has some attractive new tops with elbow-length sleeves; the soft-knit featherweight tees (in V-neck and crewneck), the pleat-front tissue top, the paisley Alessia blouse, the printed silk twill boatneck top. Nice colors, too.

I look forward to your dress report. Is it just me, or do all the dresses this season seem to fall about 4 inches above the knee?

  5. I found two really good basic, well-fitting, below the knee, sleeved dresses at Chicos (gasp). They are easy to change the look with a scarves, boots or pumps, jewelry, etc. Quite versatile. The "Clea and Gaby dresses" if one is interested.
I know Chicos gets the bad rap, but these two are really wearable and chic.

  6. Actually I agree with you that Chico's had an undeserved bad rap. Sure, they have some clunkers (some of those prints...ouch!) but I've also found some real winners there. Look for a future post setting the record straight. ;-)

  7. What does une femme think about elbow/bracelet-length winter coats/jackets? Bill Cunningham just did a photo essay on them in the NYTimes. I love the look, but would rather not freeze.

  8. Is it only me who finds all the dresses and the tops pictured here a bit too spiritless? They all look perfect for an older lady, but somehow lack that `something´I atleast would want. My appearance might look oldish, but I still would want to dress in a bit more modern way.

  9. Spiritless...hmm. I don't see them that way. They are simple and basic, and maybe what you're seeing is my own style Modus Operandus: I tend to stick to straightforward pants and tops, and use jackets and accessories to jazz things up. It's what works for be because of my size (short) and shape (curvy, big-busted). But I will concede that there isn't a lot of variation among the elbow sleeve tops I listed...there were a handful I saw with baby-doll styling or puffy sleeves but I didn't like the look of them, so didn't feature.
