No. Just...no.

They're ba-a-a-a-ck.
"Givenchy and Burberry sent luxurious versions of the hip-grazing bag down their spring runways, and then there were the hip, bag-wearing masses at April's Coachella music festival. Thankfully, today's packs are different from the bulky butt bags of yore -- sleeker, more stylish, in endless colors and materials."

Une femme dit, "some trends are better left un-exhumed."

  1. Halleujah! Now I can pack cell phone, wallet and keys on my body, leave the diapers in the stroller, chase the toddlers, and still be stylish. Although I think gold snake may be a bit much with the mommy attire. I'm thinking more the brown leather at Sundancecatalog.com.

I know, it's lumpy and unstylish, but man, I love being hands-free!

  2. I know -- I'm bemused by this one too, having noticed these showing up on the streets on otherwise well-dressed, even cool young folks. I went back home and dug out a pouch-on-a-belt I'd bought years ago from a leather artisan. It's sleek, beautiful leather, practical, etc., etc., but even when it was stylish -- when was that, the 90s? -- I never ended up using it, all that bulk at the hips unless you never put anything in it and then, really, what's the point? So my it's-not-a-fanny-pack went back in the trunk, altho' if this incarnation picks up speed, I'll see if my niece wants it ;-)

  3. Please clarify for MIss J... these are not designer versions of fanny packs, are they??? They are shoulder bags that rest at the hip... If they rest at the hip, the strap is long enough to use the bag cross-body... MIss J must investigate.

  4. dana - at the park with the kids is entirely different! I'm talking about fanny packs as a fashion statement.

materfamilias - I haven't seen many in action here, but I suppose it's just a matter of time...

miss janey - no, that's a fanny pack. A gold, alligator fanny pack.
