There's been a lot of 80's music nostalgia making it's way through the blogosphere this week. This is one of une femme's absolute faves. If you've never seen Laurie Anderson's "Home of the Brave," it's worth at least a Netflix rental. Some people find her weird and/or pretentious; personally I think she's a genius, and a poet as well as a musician/perfomance artist.
I love Laurie. I have seen four of her shows. One of my favorite songs is "Babytalk." Going to add it to my Netflix cue. I haven't had a Laurie listen for a long time. Thanks, DP!
ReplyDeleteLaurie was here Friday night as part of the North by Northeast festival- in a really small venue. She just married Lou Reed in April and he's been showing up to perform encores with her. Don't know about here, have not seen a review of Friday's show.
ReplyDeleteI think Laurie and Lou are a bizarre couple. I thought their tastes lay elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so envious of you who've been able to see her perform live. Lou Reed? Really??? In a way I can kind of see it but it's in the "things that make you go hmmmm" category.
ReplyDeleteThey have been a couple for a decade and recently married. On Friday she played "Homeland" her new album and Lou joined her for the last two numbers.
ReplyDeleteThe local paper called passages of the performance touching and poetic.
OMG, I haven't heard that song in decades. Interesting song but wierd 1980's vibe. Back in the day I preferreed Kate Bush to Laurie Anderson. She was a great chanteuse.
