The Ellen Tracy Lambskin jacket(s) I ordered from Nordstrom arrived, and while it's a gorgeous piece, once I removed the clips that held the back pleat in place, the volume was too overwhelming on someone my height. The overall effect is reminiscent of a sturdy shelter for a family of four.~
I thought that might be the case, I've always hated swing coats.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteRita - I can wear swing coats if the fabric is lighter and drapes well. I have one Theory swing jacket that I purchased last year and still adore. Even though the leather on this jacket is divinely soft, there's too much weight to it to drape as it needs to on someone with short stature and curves.
ReplyDeleteAH quel domage deja, pourtant il était tellement joli, moi aussi j'ai ce problème que courte stature, bah!

Bummer.
ReplyDeleteToo bad, except that perhaps this means you'll have more Euros to spend in Paris . . .
ReplyDeleteGrrr, those stylists and their clothespins. I've always wondered why every retailer doesn't have virtual models like Lands' End. Because they'd rather have US fr dummies, I guess.
ReplyDeleteRats. Well, nothing ventured...
ReplyDeleteSo, um, how would it be on a person who's 5'6"? Hmmmmmm????
style spy - I'm betting it would look smashing on you.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, it doesn't look overwhelming in the photo but you are right and the fabric is important. I recently made a jacket with a pleated back but it is in unlined linen so it doesn't look inappropriate on my 5'2" frame. Actually, I just made another one with a single big pleat and it works too because of the fabric.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for updating us on the coat! I had visited "my coat" on Nordie's website many times after seeing it here. You just saved me a chunk of change! (I'm 5'3)

Deja,
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the fabric. Also, the length is a huge factor as well. Most swing coats hit me at the widest part of my hip & that doesn't work. I do have a longer swing coat in a soft fabric that looks nice.
