Both those shades of green are so lush. What I'd really love is the dress on the left in the color of the dress on the right! With the pricetag on the right.
enc and duchesse - it's true that the tailoring on the BR dress is nowhere near what you see in the left hand picture. First, as anyone who shops vintage knows, good tailoring used to be a component of even off-the-racks clothing, something that went sadly by the wayside with cheap, mass-produced clothing (and with some not-so-cheap clothing either...cutting corners on finishing and tailoring is how clothing manufacturers maximize their profit margins). Second, as I'm sure everyone realizes, clothes/costumes in TV and film are either custom made for the actors or are altered to fit perfectly. Even with the best clothing, a fit like that can only be achieved with a tailor/dressmaker's help. Third, I think if Joan were in her position today, her salary would probably require her to shop at places like BR and Ann Taylor (unless of course one of her sugar daddies is buying). What I was going for was the general look in something available and accessible. BTW, La Belette posted Friday about purchasing a BR dress that looked much better on than in the picture (so often the case with some of these e-tailers who turn their stock around quickly) so I tended to give this dress the benefit of the doubt. :-)
Yes, yes and yes!

ReplyDeleteMaybe that's asking too much.
The BR dress is badly cut and an example of how boring a sheath can look. Or is it that Joanie is so... well-cut?

ReplyDeleteJust bought Season 1 on the weekend. So excited.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. Actually, it is a lot like the purple one I got. This one is going in my cart.
