Callooh! Callay!(I suspect everyone will be dressed in much warmer attire today...forecast high 31F, snow flurries.)
Edited to add:
1. Something told me I shouldn't bother putting on mascara this morning....
2. Aretha Brings The Hattitude!
3. Yo Yo Ma always looks like he's enjoying himself when he performs.
4. LOVE Michelle's dress!!!

Actually, I think it will be colder than that - it was -10 at my house this morning in Upstate New York. What we will not see, I suspect, are hats. Even though it will be extremely cold and probably windy as well, we will not see hats. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's a shame.
ReplyDeleteI'm smiling, thinking of all the workplaces where business will be suspended to watch the ceremony.
ReplyDeleteShe does look good uh...

OK -- got 'the skinny'(NY Times) on Michelle Obama's dress:
ReplyDelete"Ms. (Isabel) Toledo, who has been making clothes in New York for 25 years, said the coat and dress were made of Swiss wool lace, backed with netting for warmth and lined in French silk. “I wanted to pick a very optimistic color, that had sunshine,” she said. “I wanted her to feel charmed, and in that way would charm everybody.” Ms. Toledo sounded overwhelmed. “This is so wonderful,” she said."
There you go: Swiss wool lace with multiple layers of fabrics to hold warmth. It would not surprise me if Ms Toledo had also hidden a layer of 3M Thinsulate(tm) in that coat as well. I can well imagine that phones were being picked up all over fashion-land today to suppliers with requests for wool lace, Swiss or otherwise.
Even with a few layers, that still doesn't sound very warm for the weather there today...
ReplyDeleteI thought the exact same thing about Yo Yo Ma. It was exciting to see him again. I love the Shaker music they played. What a fabulous day!
ReplyDeleteToday is my 55th birthday, so I'm in your demographic. I just discovered your blog and love it. My blog is on frugality, not on style, but I have talked about the Hermes ties I've found over the years (no scarf, alas, other than a fake).
ReplyDeleteThanks for some wonderful reading.
Happy Birthday, and thanks, Frugal Scholar! I'll be checking out your blog for sure, as I need more frugality in my life these days.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all congratulations to the american people! I too want a president like that!!! (fat chance) Good thing I was working from home and didn't have any mascara either.
ReplyDeleteHeard on the local radio today that Michelle's dress was by a Chicago designer Michael Flowers. Is that a mistake then? Loved the dress+coat and the color on her.
