On Safari with...Talbots????

Definitely seeing a new aesthetic. Batik print tunic, $79.

Talbot's has it covered.
Safari Blouse, $139.

I never expected to see something like this from Talbots:
Silk Halter Dress, $199. (Wish it was a better print, though.)

But by far, some of the best safari-themed looks can be found in accessories.

Faux horn cuff, $49.

Ikat linen wrap, $59.

Exotic bead charm bracelet, $69.

Bamboo-handled bag, $199.
Cane print Wellies, $59. (OK, so these aren't exactly consistent with the "safari" theme, but I thought they were fun.)

Tumbled leather hobo, $159.

Botanical print scarf, $59.
Bead necklaces, $109 and $89.

  1. Love that bamboo bag. Would anyone be able to compare Talbot's sizing to Banana Republic's? I know Banana runs large in general. I'm a 12 at Banana; would I be the same at Talbot's?

  2. sarahn - it's been my experience that Talbot's pants run a little bit smaller than BR, but their tops run a bit bigger. For sweaters/tops, I'm an "M" at Talbots and and "L" at BR. Talbot's pants come right up to the waist, and so I order a size up from what I normally order at BR.

  3. Went yesterday to see collection but they were still unpacking. Bag looks very good for the price! They've really hung their hopes on this safari/moroccan theme. T. pants do not have consistent fits or style names like BR; unfortunately you have to try them.

  5. Although I must say I wa startled by the camel on the front of the catalogue. Anyone who has been up close and personal with a camel knows that they are dirty, smelly, and downright mean sometimes. I wonder how many times the models got spit on by the camels.

I like some of the looks, though

  6. Some of these are very nice. Not that mIss J can WEAR a halter, but she likes the dress Miss Pseu picked. And hte bags are very reasonable.

  9. Duchesse, I bought a tumbled leather tote from the winter '08 collection and found it to be nice quality, especially at that price point. I like both the bamboo handled bag and the hobo, so will need to check them out.

There are some nice looks in the latest catalog--I hope they look as nice in person.

  10. Duchesse - yes, they've really gone all in. I think they're also trying to channel a slightly toned-down version of Tory Burch.

Karen - look for the GA review on Friday!

  11. Nina - I've heard that too. Hopefully for the models' sakes the camels were at least well-behaved.

Miss Janey - it's been my experience that some of the Talbot's bags are generally a pretty good option for the price. Some of them have hardware that looks a bit cheap, but when they get it right, they're fabulous.

  12. Sal - I'm not the biggest safari look fan either, but I do like some of those accessories, and yes, I'm anxious to see where they go next. I think this is a definite step in the right direction.

Cecile - sounds like you're ready for this trend!

  13. Nancy - that is the catch, isn't it? The construction, and the fit...which can be a bit hit-and-miss with Talbot's.

  14. Dang, I can't wait that long to hear if you are having a love affair with Giorgio!

  15. I don't know...I can't like it much....it just isn't...Talbots? But I guess that is the point...I still haven't gotten over Casual Corner and Petite Sophisticate closing, guess it is time to Let It Go...

  17. Mavaronda - I know Talbot's doesn't appeal to everyone. But they do seem to try to be more current.

Mindy Princess - thanks! So glad you enjoy the blog. I'm looking forward to seeing what Talbot's has in the pipeline. They definitely seem to be moving in a good direction.
