A Short Story With a Happy Ending

See une femme's new orthotics.*

See one of une femme's favorite pair of shoes.

See orthotics meet shoes.

See orthotics fit shoes.**

See une femme's happy feet. Sing, feet, sing!

* Necessitated by my very high arches that collapse inward without support, and put strain on my muscles and joints (probably one of the causes of the arthritis in my hip which required the replacement).

**In fact, they fit into most of my shoes, except for the very dressy ones that I don't walk in much anyway.

  1. Orthotics are great for flat feet, too! My ankles swell up if I wear shoes without good support, orthotice prevent that.

  2. Oh, happy day! Amazing, isn't it, how one little thing wrong with your feet causes this cascade of problems with the rest of your body? My back was a WRECK when my plantar fasciitis was bad.

  3. Cute shoes even with orthotics! Are they Ecco? Glad they work and are protecting your new hip.

  7. Great! Are they prescription? Or can I get them at my drugstore? I have high arches too, and have a really hard time standing for long periods of time.

  8. Rita - it's funny, I thought for years that my high arches were "insurance" against foot problems. I only recently realized where the expression "falling arches" comes from!

Style Spy - yes, problems with the feet apparently can throw your whole body alignment off.

  9. Duchesse - yes, they're Ecco's. This style has been discontinued, wish I'd bought another pair when they were available!

Dana - I'm really glad I finally went to the podiatrist. I'm loving these so far; they feel like a hug to my feet.

  10. Sal - I was really holding my breath. They looked so wide, but fortunately they are cute-shoe-compatible.

Miss Janey - twin sisters of different mothers, I'm tellin' ya... ;-)

  11. Couture Allure - these are custom made from casts done by a podiatrist. The good news is that they should last 3-5 years, even with daily wear.

  12. Fantastic that your orthotics fit - are they a special type? I have many clients who only wear very ugly clumpy shoes to fit their orthotics (and not being an orthotic wearer myself I don't know much about them), but am heartened to hear that there are attractive shoes that fit orthotics out there - do you find any particular brands of shoes better for fitting them?

  13. Imogen - tell your clients they should request "dress orthotics." These fit right into regular shoes without having to remove the insole. They seem to work on all but my narrowest dress shoes. They even work in my pointy-toed Stuart Weitzman booties (which I'm wearing today - yay!).

  14. Thanks for revealing the secret of "dress orthotics." I'm wanting to avoid clumpy dowdy shoes for as long as I can. For now, my work around is ball of the foot pads but eventually I know my feet will need something more.

Of course, my new shoe love is Sofft. I got a pair of peep toe heels at 70% off and I could wear them easily all day at the office. Must try them again.

  16. Munro shoes are good too - you can remove the insoles and replace them with your orthotics.
