Foulard de la semaine

I'm really liking the softer, smaller (70cm x 70cm) scarves. There's less fabric to work with, but it's easier to get these more casual, insouciant looks.

(Don't know why the quality of this photo is so bad, though; my mirror really isn't that dirty!)

  1. What pretty shades in this scarf. I wish I looked as nice as you in scarves, I think I just look silly. You really have a nice way with them.

  2. Great, as always.
I'm amazed that you got to use the word insouciant. Now that's one of my goals too.

  3. They are lovely colours - gentle and subtle without being remotely dull or boring. I have really got into scarves in the past year and am slowly building up a collection.
Julianne - I used to think I looked silly in them as well and that I didn't know how to tie them, but I tentatively started wearing them and then started getting compliments. I think I needed to get used to seeing myself weariing scarves and experimenting with different ways of wearing them.

  4. Julianne - thank you! I think Sheila is right, it just takes some practice and getting used to seeing yourself in a scarf. I also felt awkward at first when I started wearing them.

Frugal - thanks! Insouciant is one of my favorite words. Thanks for noticing!

Sheila - thank you. Usually I look for more color in my scarves, but love that these colors are neutral enough to mix with just about anything in my closet.

  5. what lovely, gentle shades in that scarf -- but my eye is just as drawn to your great collection of bangles, so well coordinated.

  6. Somehow I imagine you whipping off the scarf after taking the photo and scrubbing the mirror with it.

  7. I like you in the brown, but as materfamilias says, my eyes were really drawn to your bangled wrist! Lovely all around!

  10. Julianne, I agree - you just need to wear scarves a few times. And don't be too fussy about how you tie it - it doesn't have to be perfect!

  11. Subtle, soft and so alluring. I'm not buyig the 70cm myself (at 5'10" I need more to work with); love them on you!

  13. Your collection of scarves is amazing. Sometimes they are just the perfect thing for an outfit--like the red one I wore earlier this week with an otherwise boring gray suit. Thanks for the inspiration.

By the way, I've nominated you for an award on my blog. Love your site!

  14. I love the softness of the scarf juxtaposed with the hardness of the bangle bracelets.
Great look for a cold Friday.

  15. materfamilias - thanks, actually the bangles are a single wrap bracelet. The other one is a J.Crew wood bead stretchy bracelet.

    WendyB - aaayyyeee! No no!

    spacegeek - thanks!

Sal - LOL! I keep them in my secret underground bunker.

Rita - so true, in fact they look better when tied more casually, IMO.
