Judging from comments in yesterday's post, it seems that many of you are also experiencing frustration trying to find tee shirts that fit and flatter.
Une femme, feeling the call to perform a public service, has decided to do some tee shirt legwork for you! I'm going to gather some of the tees suggested in the comments and do a side-by-side comparison for fit, fabric, and overall look. I'll post my findings here in a week or two.

ReplyDeleteI like my Banana Republic tees a bunch. They're nice & long, which is important, and the knit is nice. But I have a very small bust & ribcage and they are narrow-ish. Also, j'adore beaucoup the Simply Vera ones at Kohl's.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a worthy project, but I do wonder to what extent the results will be transferable, given normal differences in body sizes? Does a tee in a universally flattering cut exist? (I'm not just phrasing misgivings in the form of questions, I really do wonder this.)

Blume - I don't anticipate that my findings regarding fit will be universally applicable, but it does seem that several of my commenters had the same complaint that I did about many tee offerings: too long and narrow.

New York Magazine did a white tee comparison a few years ago; budget winner then) was Gap and high end, James Pearse. Though we are all different shapes, your comments on fabric quality will help me and am delighted by our efforts on our behalf.

ReplyDeleteMiss J appreciates Miss Pseu's efforts. Miss J feels she can't wear a white T to save her life- at least not to work. Her ginormous breasteses just look all the larger. Even at the gym, Miss J hides 'neath men's XL tees. Yeah. she's not rollin' purty at the work-out.

ReplyDeleteI've been digging up my t-shirts now that the weather has been getting nice, and rediscovered a light blue Hanna Andersson one. HA makes really nice tees (DH has one too) -- soft, non-transparent pima cotton, not too long, high quality.
ReplyDeleteI think tshirts are tricky with the bust! Cut and drape are critical. At any rate, I've given up on the vneck. It always exposes more than I want, and doesn't look right under a jacket. For my money, I want a scoopneck, not too low, and elbow sleeves. JJill has one that I'm liking. Size alert: I had to get an S, and I'm never an S, usually more like M-L b/c I'm busty with shoulders. Looking forward to the report from your outstanding public service.

ReplyDeleteSadly my faves will not be able to compete. Due to their perfectness (or rather their normal-ness), the old navy basic "perfect fit" v neck tees are sold out ...again. (Unless you are an xtra small that is). Why they don't carry more of them and have them in the dang STORES is beyond me.
Argh.

ReplyDeleteForgot to mention - I am also short waisted & busty (awful combo for shirts) And the old navy t shirts are not too long or too clingy. Which is probably why they always sell out so quickly.

WalMart's White Stag and Faded Glory tees vary from year to year and season to season BUT when they have a good tee (like last summer) they last and look as good as pricey ones!
