Marinières, encore

I'm starting to see these *everywhere* now....

High end:

Tory Burch, $125.
Elizabeth & James, $195.

Cashmere:
Talbots, $129.

Talbots again, $129.

Wendy has asked me to find her "a tight one." My guess is this one would fit snugly, AND it has a bow!
Sonia Rykiel at ShopStyle

Sonia Rykiel, $120. (Click on picture for linkydink.)

  1. And then there's ye olde LL Bean Sailor shirt. I still have one, though I mostly wear it as a pj top now.

I can't help thinking of Jean Seberg in Breathless. Love them!

  3. Very fine. I like the second one, the slightly looser shape - and oh the most expensive!

  4. I became enamored of the striped sailor shirt last year and purchased four from LL Bean. Mine are more of a light weight sweater. They are perfect for Spring weather with khaki's. The shirt from Elizabeth and James looks intriguing; suspect they don't make sizes large enough for me but I like the style.

I look forward to hearing if you decide to purchase one of more of these lovelies for yourself.

  5. Dammit, Eric Bompare's cashmere mariniere is on sale but S/O in my size. Liked it because the stripes are very fine, anything wider than a pencil's line and I look very broad- which is a consideration. Any sailor stripe looks very appealing in spring, and where summer is cool (or on the water) but to me not as appealing in fall or winter.

  6. Bonjour,
I like the first one, still haven't made up my mind if I can pull it off though. Did you get one for yourself yet? It would look so great on you.
Hope you're having a fabulous week!

  7. It's a great look. I like the white stripes on the dark ground versus the dark on light. Definitely makes me think spring will come 'round again!

  8. Hi Une Femme.
I have a navy and white striped T that I got from the boys wear department of H & M in Hong Kong in August 2009 and I love it. I think it was about $10 so it is definitely "low end". Jean Paul Gaultier does a navy and white Chanel inspired striped fisherman's T in every collection. His are most definitely "high end" and require a stiff drink and a lie down when you confront the price point. As we say in Australia "I am loving your blog sick". Kirstin xxx

  9. I love this look!

I'm particularly excited because I just scored a vintage Sonia Rykiel striped top that I can't wait to wear this spring. But first I have to survive this winter weather. :(

  10. Oh that last one is sooo Wendy Brandes! But shouldn't the bow be on the butt?

  11. These are great - funnily enough I saw one here today in Australia too and thought - aha! It's back again (or maybe it didn't even go away - just flew south for the winter!!)

  12. Newsflash: This very topic is covered today in the Wall street Journal. You said it first. Congratulations.

According to the article, the stripes are flying out of the stores. So--classic as these are--you may run into a lot of other sailors.
