C'est un honneur...

It's Awards Season, and twice in a matter of days une femme was the recipient of blog awards! (Darn, my Red Carpet Gown is at the cleaners again...how do I always manage that?)

Then, the gorgeous and vivacious Miss Janey bestowed upon une femme the much sought-after Kreativ Blogger award!
Through some odd turn of fate, both awards require an acceptance speech replete with Seven Assorted Factoids a propos de moi. Rather than bore you all to tears with two lists, I'm going to give you one superfantastic list of 7, The Magnificent Seven as it were.First, I'd like to thank my agent, without whom I'd still be waiting tables at Sizzler.

1. I love to pack and hate to unpack. Some of our ski clothes will probably still be piled in a corner of our bedroom a week from now, waiting to be put back into the storage boxes that live under the bed.

2. I panic if I leave the house without lipgloss and/or hand lotion.

3. I'm getting one, maybe two wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow. Both of my top wt's came in fully over 30 years ago, and now one of them is loose. I never developed any on the bottom. My dentist has promised that this will be "no big deal" as roots on both are smallish.

4. I love to polish shoes. There are few chores that provide the satisfaction of that moment when you start buffing to bring out the shine.

5. My car is rarely clean. We don't have a useable garage, so it's parked outside all of the time. I tend not to bother washing it until people start writing notes in the dust.

6. Mountains or beach? Mountains. With lots of trees.


7. My favorite food is sushi. After that, artichokes.

  1. That's so funny about packing; I am the opposite. I hate to pack, love to unpack. Packing takes me hours. Unpacking: five minutes. I unpack the suitcase right outside of my laundry room, with the washing machine door open.

    I also love unpacking because I get to see all of my new treasures that I purchased on the trip.

    Good luck with the wisdom teeth. The best high I've ever had was getting those out in high school. Valium, nitrous oxide, and percocet -- what a combo!

    You deserve every one and more.

    Your list is hilarious. I agree, I hate to unpack. When my "little one" was here organizing my life she unpacked the suitcase I had taken to visit her 14 months before. You have NO idea the clothes she found I didn't know I owned.

    As My-Reason-For-Living-In-France says, I'm an "excessive."

  6. Hope the wisdom teeth go well. Cut yourself some slack afterwards - it is a minor operation, after all. You may run a bit of a fever.

    I have a small product called "Pedaq SHINE" - Instant shine for all smooth leathers - packed in my suitcase to touch up shoes or boots while travelling. Very handy.

    I love fish and seafood too, but prefer tapas - with garlic - to sushi.

    You definitely merited these honours for your witty and fun blog.

  7. Eeeek, good luck with the teeth; I'm sure it will go fine and it provides a good excuse to treat yourself to delicious smoothies/ice cream/soups of your choice!

    Sher and Ms Janey have excellent taste; I do enjoy seeing what pops into my Reader attached to your name.

    I must say, I was really enjoying this post til I got down to the end and realized I was being honored by *you*...guess I'll have to do some work vs watching trashy TV tonight, ha. [/ungracious brat] But thanks much!

  8. I'm not surprised you picked up two more blog honours -- you deserve them!
    Good luck with the wisdom teeth -- I still have all four of mine, and my dentist says I can keep 'em as long as they're in good condition. Never thought of them getting "loose" -- I'm crossing my fingers right now . . .
    and my car's never clean either -- in fact, I've hinted around the family a bit that someone could have it detailed for me as a b.d. gift -- I doubt I'd recognize it!

  9. Good luck on getting those wisdom teeth out. Hope it's an easy recovery. I slept through the next couple days after.

    I confess my vehicle is a mess too. But since it's a truck, I hope people are giving me the benefit of the doubt. But I would try to turn over a new leaf if I had a new vehicle :D

  10. Ah, well, I hate to pack. I always do it at the last minute, and I always regret it. And I unpack as soon as I get home. Just back from Istanbul, where it was much colder than I expected. Thankfully, I was in a conference for days. As for wisdom teeth, enjoy the drugs. And if you have a sensitive tummy, as I do, avoid the post-op drugs involving codine. Further explanation unnecessary, I hope. As for shoe polishing . . . I like it in theory, but you couldn't tell that from the state of my boots today. But it was cold and blustery in Paris today, with sand and salt on the sidewalks, so I doubt anyone noticed.

  12. Congratulations on your award. I laughed out loud when I read that you enjoy polishing your shoes. I thought I was an oddball for liking that too. Good luck with the wisdom teeth. Let's hear it for "big pharma"...be sure to ask for a six-pack to go.

    All good wishes for a speedy recovery. I remember sitting with bags of frozen peas pressed against my cheeks. If you can read subtitles through the drugs, watch Avenue Montaigne and The Valet. If not, watch Gigi. And heal quickly. We need you! That's why you won two awards!

  17. kitchily, I'd been biting my tongue. I really try to avoid correcting anyone's language unless I'm specifically being hired and paid to do it. I love how immersed pseu is in French language and culture in LA of all places (where Spanish would be more intuitive).

    So I hope pseu is dozing and looking at pleasant films or coffee-table books. Perhaps some Greek yoghourt?

  19. I had all four wisdom teeth removed when I was 21 and living in a sparsely populated desert village in southern Israel. The dentist was a young immigrant who spoke little Hebrew or English; the only available anesthetic was Novocaine. The hygienist, a sabra, was far more farklempt than I. She kept gripping my hands and crying (in Hebrew), "You're a true heroine of Israel!"

  21. Polishing shoes was quite a manly pursuit; my father showed it to me, and I don't think that is unusual. Sure, women polished their shoes too, but well-polished shoes were very important in terms of manly grooming half a century ago. Even for men of little means; clerks and salespersons, and blue-collar workers wearing their Sunday or festive "best".

    Of course it was a male salesclerk of a certain age who told me I needed the German Pedaq touch-up for polished shoes while travelling, and the first time I saw such a handy little item it was an Italian friend (who is a law professor) who first picked it up while at a conference in Germany.

    Hope teeth discomfort is subsiding. No steak tomorrow, but perhaps your beloved sushi.
