Having seen neither of these IRL and judging by pictures only, I like the Chico’s version better, even aside from the price differential. It looks less bulky, more flattering and more wearable.

The first one is more fancy and stylish. I’d chose it.
I think I may be the only one but I can’t stand leopard print it reminds me of bar maids and wizened tanned cleavage. Oh and the tacky end of Marbella!
I like the first one better. It does seem more stylish, and comfortable. The Chico’s version looks too tight.
Either of these would make me look like a stuffed animal. I had a great French 3/4 length leopard coat with a big shawl collar faced in suede. I loved it, but it also seemed to wear me, so I sold it to a resale store. Wish I’d kept it to wear occasionally. Gloves or shoes are more wearable.
I’m with you on the bulkiness, and I like the vertical line created by the strong buttons on the Chico’s, but I’m betting the fabric feels (and looks, IRL) better on the Kate Spade’s — in that fabric, though, it’s a tall, slim women’s jacket, not mine.
I’m agreeing with the rest of the chorus here-the first is much nicer as it has more variation in the faux fur. I also like the lines of that jacket much more than Chico’s. All that said, I wouldn’t wear either-just not my style and it is hunting season in my area. 🙂

I prefer the Kate Spade. I have a vintage faux fur leopard jacket that looks almost exactly like the Dries van Norten shown in the Sept “Elle.” It is one of my favorite “fun” pieces. It makes me hap
py just to look at it.
To me the Kate Spade looks like it’s “real” fur. The one from Chico’s looks like it’s made from polyester. Kate Spade gets my vote.
I like the “fur” of the Kate Spade version, too. It’s more pettable, even in its virtual form.
That said, I’ve never been much of one for leopard — or other animal — print in any form. I’ve got some “Dalmatian” print pony-hair Danskos that I love, but it’s because they’re so ridiculous. Around here, they’re known as the “Cruella de Clogs.”
Like Tabitha, I’m also not a fan of leopard print unless it is in accessories but if I had to choose it would be Kate Spade.
I have no problem with wearing vintage fur coats, but when my furrier offered me a real vintage leopard coat that had belonged to a starlet, way back in the day, I just couldn’t even try it on.
Heh, looks like I’m in the minority here!

I’ll admit, and I never thought I’d say this, but all of the leopard goodies this season have me a bit OD’d on the LP. For the time being, I’m keeping my animal prints to accessories, and one at a time!
I like the Chico’s version also. I like that it’s a bit longer.

I’ll take the Chico’s hands down. The Kate Spade looks like a childs stuff toy to me, while the Chico’s appears more refined.
Does metscan mean protitutes? Hee-hee-hee-hee. The first time “Mr” J.W. saw my very plain and simple leopard blouse he said, “You aren’t going to wear that, are you? Only stippers wear things like that!” 🙂
Ooooh I would love either but sadly we are going into Spring Summer here and soon to even LOOK at a coat would make me feel so hot. Maybe I should stock up (!!) though and have for next Autumn here – bound to be a leopard-fest here I think too… x
There are sooooo many of these, at all price points, going WAY DOWN the ladder. I just taught the Flannery O’Connor story “Everything that Rises Must Converge.” It features two women wearing the same hat! If I wore the coat, I’d be afraid of meeting loads of ladies in the same.
PS Like Duchesse, I had a nice faux leopard coat, which my daughter insisted I donate to Goodwill. A booboo, on my part.
I prefer the look of the Kate Spade jacket. But I couldn’t wear it– I’m too short. Lately I’m finding myself looking for leopard-print jackets at Goodwill…
I have told this before, but I associate these animal prints with Russian” working” girls. Then there is the truth that leopard is way to exotic for a northern woman. Dries van Noten has a vest with the frontside in leopard. It is the only piece I have looked twice at.
I’m with you, Pseu – I prefer the lines of the Chico’s one, although I also agree with others that the fabric looks like it might not be very good up close. The bulk of the Kate Spade would look absurd on me! I’m sticking to LP scarves and ballet flats for now.
I feel quite put out and sad that I can’t purchase either of these in Australia. Boo. They are both nice but I think I like the cheaper one more.
I like the cut of the collar, the shorter sleeves and the background color of the Kate Spade coat compared to the Chicos jacket. However I like my animal prints smaller so I’ll skip the jacket. Now that pair of pony skin shoes might tempt me!
Has anyone noticed that there is a woman of a certain age style that revolves around the patterned/distinctive jacket? How many times do I see a woman, often with hair croppped quite short, with non-descript pants/top and a flashy jacket.
First one is also my pick. Much more stylish.

I have wanted that Chicos jacket since the first teaser photo appeared a few months ago…alas, it is not in the store, nor have I seen it online in previous searches. Will look again today. I compare it a bit to the longer Talbots jacket/coat you showed, the shorter length will probably look better on me.
The Chico’s version looks more like velour, not faux fur. Big difference, but I love the big buttons!
I saw the Chico’s faux leopard jacket in one of their stores today–and cannot recommend it. The fabric looks rather cheap.

Quite a few things at Chicos look cheap, and others look ok. I bought a right about the knee denim chambray dress at Chicos recently. (Available on their website under denim.) It all has to do with the fabrics they chose.
I was FLOORED by the latest Chicos catalog and completely mistook it for Black House White Market. what a great collection, and Modelmuse! vive L’Inesse!
