My bottines were in the shop getting new heel tips, so I thought I'd try these riding boots I've had for a few years and have worn only a handful of times. They're good looking boots, and very comfortable, but I have a hard time working them into ensembles without feeling like I'm wearing a riding costume. I think the non-equestrian look of the rest of this ensemble helps to mitigate the horsey factor.
Jacket, skirt, tunic: Eileen Fisher
Scarf: Hermès, "Fantasie Pittoresque"in the blue-green coloway (I was drawn to this scarf for the design vaguely reminiscent of a Jon Anderson album cover).
Brooch: Chanel
Boots: Etienne Aigner, probably 4 years old now

ReplyDeleteHere, the temps have risen above 0C (32F) and young women are out in force in ballerinas and no stockings. I can see on their faces that they are freezing but they are determined to do it.

ReplyDeleteThe thing is, although the clothes themselves differ from my style, from choices I'd make, you look absolutely wonderful. I think when you find a style that even someone who differs finds wonderful, you've risen above and beyond. You're "stylish," in that ineffable way.

If the jacket is lightweight I usually leave on at work, though I might take off while working in my office if it gets really warm.

ReplyDeleteI also have doubts about riding boots, in fact any kind of flat, because in my minds eye I can only see someone like Charlotte Rampling looking sexy in them.
ReplyDeleteI also like the way a slight heel tilts the body's centre of gravity...my chiropractor would probably ground me for this. That said, YOU look fine in them because you are on the leggy side---still I like your short black Peter Pan Getaway Boots (as my little sister used to call them) even better. Also your short Jean Seberg style haircut is so you its crazy--- I look back at the blonde midlength bob of a year ago--it looked very pretty, but now, you look like your own younger, hipper, hotter, sister!

Your haircut is very flattering - it's a nice length for your face. Your working it out outfits so far have tended on the dark side (something that I do as well). Is this pretty typical for you, or just a random quirk. One of the things I'm trying to do is work more color into my work outfits, being a recovering new yorker.

Faux Fuchsia - thanks! The garden's having its ups and downs, some challenges with the irrigation, but hopefully as spring arrives everything will perk back up.
Kady - thank you! I'm still working primarily from a core wardrobe of darker neutrals, which is intentional. I know a lot of people need more color in their wardrobes, but I'm fine with an accent of color here and there, and love how easy it is to combine and re-combine my core wardrobe pieces.
