I've recently noticed that (faux) tortoiseshell seems to be Having A Moment. And why not, it's versatile and classic, and a bit more subtle than most animal prints. Tortoiseshell accessories work nicely with summer ensembles and through into fall, and play well with a range of colors.

I have never fallen out of love with tortoiseshell, it's been calling to me since I was seventeen.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me...I have some tortise shell accessories that I had forgotten about...I think I will wear them today!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello:
ReplyDeleteTortoiseshell rimmed spectacles have always been a favourite of ours. They serve to make the wearer look intelligent as well as stylish which makes them the perfect accessory in our book.
Bonjour, Pseu! I've always loved tortoise shell and I have a number of vintage jewelry pieces that I wear year round. Looks great with khaki and neutrals in summer, darker shades in autumn and even with black, surprisingly, in winter. I'm not fond of other animal prints, since I like them on animals! But tortoise shell is the exception, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThose sunglasses - they are calling my name! Love the pendant too, it would look so pretty with a black tee.
ReplyDeleteI have always gotten a lot of mileage out of patent shoes so those tortoise heels look good to me.
ReplyDeleteTortoiseshell sunglasses beneath a wide brim hat - what could be better? Love the array of accessories.
ReplyDeleteTortoiseshell makes me think of Fall...please Pseu not yet, Summer only just arrived here.
ReplyDeleteJust had a screw replaced in my tortoiseshell sunglasses, so I'm good to go again, and now reassured that I'm "on trend." It's all good . . .
ReplyDeleteLove the sunglasses, but was disappointed when I clicked through for a closer look, and found they have a big logo on the side piece. I'll stick with my tortoiseshell Ray-Bans with their tiny logo!
ReplyDeleteI like tortoiseshell on sunglasses, having a pair myself. Quite ok with normal eyeglasses too.
ReplyDeleteI think that on eyewear, tortoiseshell is a classic.
I agree with Metscan, tortoiseshell sunglasses are a classic look and often more flattering than a black frame.
ReplyDeleteLove the tortoise, and that jewelry is totally swell. It's calling to me, with khakis and a white shirt, sandals...
ReplyDeleteI think that tortoiseshell glasses are classic but the other tortoise items will not stand the test of time the same way. They just feel trendy to me.
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on a tortoise shell watch from Fossil for a while now. I plan to order before fall starts. Considering that it feels like about 500 degrees today, I think I have some time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, an update on the Nordstrom's sale: I got my goods today. The Eileen Fisher wool pencil skirt is nice and heavy- will be great for winter with boots. It's a little short though, might not work for the tall set.
I also ordered a couple of the Halogen drape-neck sweaters. They run very, very large and are lighter than I expected. The drape is lovely though. I plan to keep the small one and return the medium.
My leopard print flats should arrive in the next few days. I'm very tres excited about those.
When I first needed glasses (4th grade), I requested tortoise shell and the optometrist said they were for boys only: I had a choice of blue with sparkles or pink with sparkles. Yes! Still bitter.
ReplyDeleteThe tortoiseshell pendant and kitten heel shoes are fantastic! I have to think of what I wear those with though -- not that the shoes would fit :-)
ReplyDeleteI've always worn tortoiseshell sunglasses - and I have a small collection of vintage lucite tortoiseshell handbags which I adore. I'd really like a tortoisehell cuff, I think ...
ReplyDeleteI'm due for new specs, and have been debating about whether to continue wearing tortoise frames. I think you've answered my question...
ReplyDeleteAs for those shoes, want, want.
Frugalscholar: My first pair of glasses, in the second grade, was WHITE with sparkles. And a cat-eye shape. Must have looked stunning with my pixie haircut!
ReplyDeletei own some authentic tortoise bangles avant le ban and a pair of gorgeous salad servers.but i must say the clutch is seriously want want want.
ReplyDeleteI love torty, and it mixes so well with everything. Beware plastic tortoise jewelery, though- it scratches and then looks dull if it's a bracelet or ring (most susceptible to wear). If you can find pre-ban tortoiseshell, you will see the difference as clearly as genuine vs glass pearls.
ReplyDeleteAnother tortoise fan here all my sun specs are that hue....ok if not over done!! Ida
ReplyDeleteI love (faux) tortoiseshell. I have a pair of tortoise cat's eye Persol sunglasses that are absolutely classic and were worth every penny. They work with everything.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved tortoiseshell. I used to have eyeglasses that had that frame. Also hair combs. I think it is as classic as leopard.
ReplyDeleteI really need to put a teeny bit more effort into keeping up. I only spied the tortoiseshell trend being mentioned on Bobbi Brown's site last week. I'm way overdue for new specs and these aren't so trend-driven that they'll look outmoded six months after I've bought them. God bless classic style!
