Public Service Announcement

Attention Retailers: we'll review this one more time. That beautiful creature above, that is a Leopard.

And this is Leopard Print.

Below, behold the Cheetah.

Ergo,

Cheetah Print!

Any questions?

  1. Bon jour!Thank you so much for the cat tutorial. And jaguar--which may come in another season--has a spot within the rosette.

I enjoy your blog so much and this is my first comment. Thank you for teaching me what to do with my scarves and helping me aspire to a leaner and more sylish wardrobe.

  3. Thank you, I needed this. Because while I am a cat lover extraordinaire, I do confuse my prints from time to time! : >

  6. Bless you for explaining this to the retailers. It drives me nuts when they mix up the two. They are different patterns entirely.

Thanks for the tutorial! I was browsing the latest "must-haves" per Vogue last night and some poor soul mis-identified a jaguar print for leopard print in the product description. It's such a pity because it's easy to assume the leopard print has been made abstract or it's just a lousy rendition. Jaguar is neither and deserves better press!

  11. Although I don't care for animal prints (except reptile styles), it's always good to see that someone knows her stuff!

Oh, the ZILLIONS of times that fashion marketing demonstrates it doesn't know the difference between KNIT and CROCHET. And on and on.

  12. I knew there was a difference between the cats, but I never gave it much thought as it pertains to fashion! I will have to check my animal prints to make sure I am referring to the correct print.

  14. Thank you for the lesson.
Looking at the two big cats, the cheetah actually looks cute.
I won´t say the same of the booties.

  17. What this tells me is that I need some CHEETAH...I have plenty of leopard...I must be fair..Right?

  18. Love this! I did know the difference, but I've banged my head against the wall a time or two. Oh, and try explaining the difference between tiger strips and zebra stripes when it's in a fabric that isn't the real natural colors. Oy vey. I say if you can't figure out what it is, or it's cheap looking (and definitely is both), you shouldn't buy it!

  19. Finally! I can only respect a woman who takes her animal prints this seriously. I need to work on my cheetah accessories.

  22. Ahh, who knew? Ok, lots of people who are not me knew.....

  23. Excellent! I hate how the cats get conflated! Love both booties. Want.

  24. This is super. Thanks for letting us know that it's OK to get it our of your system. I remember one Fraiser episode where Fraiser's neighbor, Cam Winston, referred to his "sweater weaver". I was nonplussed. What the heck is that?

  25. You tell 'em, girl!

(But I'm lazy and will probably keep saying leopard. Feel free to correct me!)

  26. I just call 'em all cheetapards and call it a day. :)

  27. Do you think animal prints will ever go out of style? I thought they had a few years back when I started seeing them at Walmart etc., but they rebounded back in to the luxury lines.

  28. I saw a striped leopard shoe somewhere recently. Wait a minute, what was that animal again? :-)
