Long Live The Queen

Helen Mirren rules the red carpet, again.

Une femme isn't one to pore over RC shots (and heaven knows, we'll be inundated with them in the next few weeks, as Award Season gets underway) and contribute to the fashion commentary and critique, but this was just so freekin fantastic, I had to give a nod (and an "x-large" pic).

Elegant, glamorous, eye catching without flashing a lot of skin. And not black, red or "nude." I'll bet close up, that color really enhances her eyes. Take notes; this is how it's done, Hollywood Women Of A Certain Age.

  1. Gorgeous!

And there's something about this photo that really highlights the Russian side of her family tree. (Yep, she's half Russian -- original family name was Mironoff, or Mironov.)

  2. I agree...when I saw her gown, I thought, that is the winner over all the ages of ladies there! It is stunning!

  5. So beautiful; it's Badgley Mischka. Love her hair pulled back like that.

  6. Hello:
We could not agree more. Helen Mirren has such poise and presence. The dress is perfect in every way, age-appropriate, a wonderful colour, stylish and elegant. Perfect!!

  7. And she even used to own a little house in New Orleans--featured in Architectural Digest.

PS frugalscholar@gmail.com. I tried to email you, but it didn't work--was returned. So exciting!

  8. Stunning. And with sleeves! Dame Helen usually insists on sleeves. Such a welcome change on the red carpet.

  9. Hmm. I love her hair, and she looks gorgeous, but the dress is not my fave. Despite the glorious navy. Too much froof. Still, it's Mirren, so that's already wonderful.

  10. Agree, agree, agree on all counts. But the best fashion accessory of all is her winning smile.

  11. She looks gorgeous and I love the way she looks with her hair pulled back and accessories not overdone. The skirt is a little too much for my taste but it does look fabulous on her.

  12. Stunning, stunning, stunning.

What else is there to say?

  13. Of all the women of a certain age, Ms. Mirren appeals to me the most. She seems the most natural, least cranked-up and most confident with her looks. She's become more beautiful with age.

I don't know how she does it. She always looks good. Her hair, her makeup, her style choices are immaculate. I doubt she's often, if ever, in the "What Not To Wear" columns.

  14. Isn't she wonderful?! I love this colour, too, as a fabulous alternative to black. Would love it in a cashmere v-neck pullover or even a turtleneck. . .

  17. Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep are of comparable age, income, etc. Notice how good Helen almost always looks and how rumpled and frumpy Meryl usually looks. As good as Helen looked at the recent Golden Globes is how bad Meryl looked in her cowboy, size-of-her-hips enhancing skirt with pockets dress.

  18. ys, alas Meryl sms 2 revel in hr lack of fashion sense (anti-Hollywd?) Mirren's dress is a super color,nt seen often - bt the petals cd only be worn by a tall slyph! Luckily PRIME SUSPECT is in the past - with her "youthening" the rumpled detective wdn't play quite as well...Let's hear it for the CHARACTER actresses....

  19. Helen is fabulous! Also agree with the comment about Meryl; love, love, love her, but she often looks a mess. Her Golden Globes dress was pretty awful. She could take a lesson from Helen!

  22. Ugh, I was so bored by all those pale colors on the red carpet. This was lovely.

  23. WOW - Helen usually looks pretty darn fabulous but I don't think she's ever looked THIS fabulous!! What a gorgeous, gorgeous dress... Thanks for sharing!

  24. This dress is a lesson in dressing to enhance: that inky blue contrasting with her pale skin and hair, the deep V accenting the vertical and framing her creamy decolletage, the jeweled center of the belt creating the illusion of a narrow waist, and those petals for texture and movement. Beautiful and clever.

  25. Hot dang. She is the reason I'm keeping my hair long enough to chignon. That dress is fabulous on her. Makes me weep with joy.

  26. I don't watch the awards shows...but you can bet I'm sneaking around on the celebrity sites, leafing through the gowns. I agree that there were far too many nude gowns.

  27. This was my favourite Golden Globe frock. Helen Mirren looked fabulous.

  28. As Tom and Lorenzo so aptly put it, she is the Queen of (pardon my French) Fuckinfantastica! http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2012/01/golden-globe-awards-red-carpet-part-1.html
