Several of you mentioned in comments on
yesterday's post that high contrast prints are harder for you to wear due to your own softer coloring. I'm in the same boat, so looked up some pieces that will work better for us. In addition to the
Banana Republic Sweater Jacket, the
Eileen Fisher tee, and the
Banana Republic dot scarf shown yesterday, here are some additional suggestions for those who are drawn to geometric prints but need a softer look.
Deviating a bit from my Stripes-and-Dots theme, I'm also going to recommend this jacket from Talbot's, now quite discounted:
Yes, the print is large, but it's very muted and blended. The mohair blend fabric is soft and light, and the fit is not bulky. This is easier to wear than you'd think. And it
zips! (I love jackets that zip.)
Another suggestion is to look for stripes or dots that are very small and close-set. This will give the impression of a more blurred and lower contrast pattern.

The Land's End jacket is fab - as a brand I think they're very underrated!
ReplyDeleteLove the Talbots--and i love felted wool--but don't think the LE would work for me.
ReplyDeleteWonderful selection for us muted types (in colors only, I must add : >) The Lands End jacket in navy/ivory would be a lovely addition to my closet.
ReplyDeleteI too adore the Lands End Jacket!! Really unique and I can tell it is warm.

I am seriously thinking about the navy polka dot trench and the lands end striped coat, so fun!!
Love your blog and I am looking forward to following along,
Kathysue
Oh yes, I the Talbots jacket and Marc Jacobs polka dot scarf. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI purchased the Talbots jacket during their fabulous sale (thanks to your earlier nudge - not that I need one!)and love it. Zips in the front and the sleeves! A true keeper!
ReplyDeleteThe jacket and the scarf please! I love a jacket that zips and I also love that gray on gray plaid combined with mohair, it must be lovely indeed.
ReplyDeleteI love all the graphic prints: soft and hard!
ReplyDeleteThe Ella Moss sweater is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe Talbot's jacket is delicious.
ReplyDeleteI just started blogging a few months ago and thought it would be a fashion blog only to discover to do it right you must have light colors on top with bold color trims, or patterns, or textured fabric all which I have none of. Also do not know how to use a camera yet to take photos of self or to insert them on my blog once I do. In the mean time it was suggested to just keep blogging which I am. This was an interesting post because it lets me see how I thought I had style until I wanted to blog about it and now I have no idea what my style even is when having to worry about being "editorial" about it.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, but I still prefer the solids to strips, plaids and small prints of any kind, whether in strong or softer, muted colors. Some kind of an interesting pattern on a long dress might make an exception.
ReplyDeleteI love check, so stand to reason I would love the check jacket
ReplyDeleteLove the vertical stripe on the loose fitting sweater. It seems flattering to anyone, and comfy, too.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, that Lands End jacket is marvelous! plus that Ella Moss sweater is sexy and comfortable (looking). Gonna put that on my must-have list.
