My little city features, for the tourists, a daily cannon firing at noon throughout the summer. Sadly, we don't run to catapults. Nor do I remember this one from when I spent a day at Les Baux many years ago. I do remember it being a splendid day immersed in history, though. Hope you enjoyed it as well.
When you said here is something you do not see everyday, I was afraid it was the American tourist who drove into the French subway that was on the news tonight!! Glad to know it wasn't you guys!!
I believe we should refer to that as a trebuchet. Used often for Punkin Chunkin here in the States, but I presume it has a more legitimate use in France, non??
I have seen this during a visit to Provence last year. Beautiful place. I actually got to take part in the launch of one of the machines they have there. Very funny.
Les Beaux is really stunning and beautiful! I absolutely enjoyed the audio-guide they provide. There is an up-side when it comes to Mistral: Blue skies!!

I love that little French village. So beautiful. I know you had a wonderful day there.
ReplyDeleteYes, magnifique!
ReplyDeleteNot every day, indeed -- once in a lifetime, perhaps! Marvelous.

ReplyDeleteThanks Gretchen. My knowledge of medieval history does not, malheuresement extend to the weaponry. :-)
DeleteThat is a great video.
ReplyDeleteThat would be most awesome in person, as my sons would say. Love your blog, just read through parts of it for an hour!
