Inspired By...

J.Crew perfect shirt

Mais oui, it's another outfit photo. You're all going to get tired of my mug pretty soon. Between work, getting ready for our yearly ski trip and working on an alternative school placement for jeune homme, I've barely been able to complete a sentence, let alone a post. But I do have a lot of fun stuff in the works for next month including a giveaway, so please don't give up on me yet.

I was inspired yesterday by Tish's post at A Femme d'un Certain Age about blouses and statement necklaces, and decided to try layering up à la Loulou de la Falaise.

statement necklaces

Unfortunately, I don't have the kind of Loulou-esque statement necklaces in my collection to really pull off this slightly bohemian Rive Gauche look, so think my effort fell somewhat short.

J.Crew necklace
Meh.
I did like the blue and white shirt with the black pieces though, and think I deserve some YSL brownie points for that. :-) Jewelry-wise, I felt the effect was more Madame Bijoux than Loulou.

  3. I think you need to be relatively flat-chested to pull off Loulou's look,so it's not for me. I like your pieces - definitely not meh!

    1. Sulky Kitten, I agree, but think we bustier gals could still pull off shorter bold necklaces. And thank you!

  4. You look so put together! Easy and relaxed. I absolutely love it!

  5. This simple, classic style of necklaces is perfect for what you have on here. It adds but is not overdone. You always know how to achieve the balance. Hope all of the preparations above go well!

  7. Aaaaaah but just look at that gorgeous model and that cheeky glint in her eye:). You look fabulous m'dear and I think I'll take a leaf out of Madame Bijoux's book coz she looks like a load of fun, even with that grumpy look on her face - she's piling on the bling!!! xo

    1. Pull Your Socks Up, she's only grumpy because the waiter's been slow to refill her wine glass! And thank you.

  8. It's lovely and very nice. On me though, I always feel overdone with earrings, necklaces, glasses AND bracelets and a watch and a statement ring thrown in for good measure. I am tall and fairly slender but it never looks as right or put together on me as it does on others.

    1. Cornelia, thank you! I think there's a line for each of us between "statement" and "overdone" and we all have to go by what feels right.

  9. I LIKE this look on you! I especially like the blue stripe blouse with the black jacket and pants. And, like other posters, I think your necklaces are just right. You look fabulous today!

  10. You've got a long way to go before I'd be bored with your outfit posts -- this is a great look, very smart -- A nice way to take an inspiration and make it work for your lifestyle with what's in your closet. As for me, seems much more same old, same old, than inspiration lately . . .

    1. materfamilias, thank you. Other than a few new pieces and replacement purchases, I'm also trying to work with what I've got. Thank goodness for inspiration from other bloggers! (And you're one of them!)

  11. I love seeing what you're up to, sartorially. And I like what you've done with the look -- I'm also feeling inspired by Tish's idea and will probably give it a whirl on Saturday, when I'm going to a "chocolatada" (lots of Spanish-style hot chocolate and churros) to celebrate a friend's birthday. Last year I overdressed, so this year it's jeans, heeled boots, blouse, sweater, and turquoise. I'll post if I can get a decent picture.

    1. rubiatonta, it sounds like your jewelry will be closer to what's needed to achieve LouLou's slightly boho look. My guess is the hot chocolate there is very good...am I wrong? :-)

  12. Wow, you look fantastic! I love the suit with striped shirt and the cuffs rolled up are perfect! The necklaces to have impact and perfectly polish off your look. I agree that the statement necklace is an awesome look but can go overboard (I've never been able to get it just right). You probably know Tamera from Tamera Beardsley she pulls off this look here http://www.tamerabeardsley.com/2013/01/black-and-white-gems.html. I can't wait until she starts selling her diy statement necklace looks as I would love to try this look again myself. Have a great day, you look gorgeous!

I think we have the same necklace and funny thing I posted mine this morning too.
Tishri rather inspired my thoughts on neck wear.

  14. I am always interested in your outfits, so post as many as you like!!

For me the 'less is more' approach is better, especially in the jewelry department as I'm not staturesque and all! For myself I would just go for the short necklace under the shirt and not bother with the others.

    1. Northmoon, thank you! I do tend to be a minimalist too, but enjoy a little experimentation with layering. I may try multiple shorter necklaces next time.

  16. Though I like your necklaces very much on you, if *you* are not comfortable, that's irrelevent. Lou Lou has no bust to speak of, best situation for wearing masses of necklaces over chest. Your long cardi and jeans make you look tall and svelte! "Column of colour" proves its visual effect again.

    1. Duchesse, thank you. I actually do like the result, just didn't achieve the original intention. And I agree that it's harder to wear masses of bulky necklaces over a larger bust. I'm finding not only the column of color, but sticking to a long-over-lean silhouette works best for my proportions.

  17. Although I am a total scarf person, lately I have tired of them and was looking for a sweater vest and found a great one with a faux fur collar that is a great alternative to wearing "the scarf"! ps many many compliments on it too!

  19. I have so few pieces of jewelry these days, that mixing is not possible.
For a necklace, I´d wish to have something personal.
As your outfit is for work, it´s right to keep them " calm ".

  21. Column of color indeed! And I think the fingertip-length jacket looks great on you. It's a very flattering silhouette for a lot of us femmes, tall or short. Very nice proportions here.

  37. I have a tendency to pile on too much black, so I was really inspired to see how fresh your striped shirt looks with the basic black. The pop of color freshens the overall look and inspires me to think about how to start moving my drab fall wardrobe towards the colors of spring!
