Workday Edge

While I’ve had my recent forays into bold colors and pattern mixing, I’m still most comfortable in simple ensembles, adding a bit of edge with accessories. And yes, black.
That’s the Nordstrom’s eyelash wrap in “Blue Merlin.” I did go back and get it, and am very glad I did. The color is fabulous and I’ve received many compliments on it. This will definitely go in the travel wardrobe! (Everyone around me has been sick lately and I’m still convinced that keeping my neck warm helps to fight off illness, hence the bundled up look here.)

Another accessory that always gets compliments is this Hermès “Collier de Chien” bracelet. This was a vintage piece purchased from Beladora 2 a few years ago.

Knit work wear

Head to toe:
Earrings: LAUREN Ralph Lauren, here.
Scarf: Nordstrom brand, here.
Sweater: Eileen Fisher, couple of years old. Similar shape.
Tee: Eileen Fisher, here.
Cuff: Vintage Hermès. More vintage bracelets here.
Pants: Eileen Fisher, here. Also available in Plus and Petite. (I really love these and wear them multiple times per week. They’re flattering, comfortable and machine washable.)
Boots: purchased in 2008, similar style.

Is there an accessory or garment in your wardrobe that always gets compliments?

  1. Polished and lovely. Your scarf is tied perfectly, too. Please, what is the secret to this? I can’t seem to get it right.

  2. The scarf is lovely on you! I hope it will still be in the shops when I am visiting New York in september

    1. Thank you for your advise Pseu! We visited New York last year in september and we enjoyed it very much. Met up with a Dutch cousin and his American wife, my husband had not seen him for 40 years!
I tried to identify with my Google account, but didn’t succeed. My name is Ellen, from Brussels, I don’t want to be an anonymous with you! Have a nice weekend!

  3. Glad to see more outfit post from you. I just love your polished casual style. This is a very difficult look for me to achieve, but you always look fabulous.

  4. It is a beautiful color Susan, and it looks great on you. I’m always surprised though that you’re comfortable wearing scarves in moderate temperatures. They make me hot in an instant.

  5. You look awesome and I am so in love with that bracelet…I can see why you get compliments on it. The scarf is a perfect color for you!!

  6. Glad you bought the scarf, it’s lovely on you. I don’t exactly “wear” him, but I get showered with compliments on my little furball dog when I have him with me!

  7. I really love that scarf, still planning on getting it in ivory. Also – great cuff, how lucky to find it vintage.

  8. Gal after my own heart! I love the black with pop of color! The blue scarf is a great color on you! Oh, and the bracelet!!

  9. Periwinkle is definitely your color; that scarf is absolutely great on you. Really, you are looking so fit and pretty–are you onto some exercise regime we should all know about?

    C.

    1. C., thank you. I’ve always loved the color periwinkle but didn’t realize it was a good color for me to wear until last year. I’ve been “doing” Weight Watchers since last fall, but no real fitness regime other than walking dogs.

  10. I was wearing a sweater the other day that isn’t one of my favorites, but I keep it because I get so many compliments on it! I figure maybe it’s one case where people are seeing something that I just don’t see! 😀

  11. Opinions come in all shapes and sizes- mine is that I LIKE black on you- and I love that soft whispery shade of blue. But what grabbed my eye very first thing is that cuff! Ooof. Tres chic-ity-chic, yo.

  12. Chic, clean line, professional, and a touch flirty with the blue scarf. I like the black on you, but then how do you take a compliment from someone who wears muppet clothing? LOL.

  13. The studded Hermes cuff is a find! I love accessories that add an edge to your outfit! I’m very often guilty of wearing all black to work but I think your use of a coloured scarf is a great way to add an accent of colour to an all black outfit. Periwinkle looks great on you!

    1. Veshoevious, thanks! I was thrilled to find the cuff and didn’t hesitate to snap it up. I wish there was more periwinkle out there as it’s such a wearable color.

  14. Killer scarves (and shoes!) typically make the outfit brilliant! Great choice to go back and get it!

  15. Love your outfit! Black and blue is my favorite color combo these days. I’m a skirt nerd and get compliments on the ones that are a little off-beat. That cuff is stunning, by the way. Thanks for the inspiration!
